Glaceon’s Plush Cleaning Guide

So I was in a situation where I had to clean my plush, but didn’t quite know how, without unftuffing it. So I tried a method based on the Surface Wash method. This guide is not exact and set in stone, so feel free to experiment!

What you’ll need:

  • A plush to clean
  • Tub
  • Water
  • Detergent
  • [Tooth] brush
  • Washing/Drying Machine and Fabric Softener

This will take about 24-48 hours, using my method

Prepping

Before we begin, so make sure to get any dust/hairs/debris off the plush so that it won’t soak in later.

Washing

We begin by filling the tub with water, lukewarm or warm is okay.
Then, drop that plush in and get it soaked and accustomed to the water.

Once soaked, go ahead and get the detergent and spread it over the surface of the plush and kinda rub it in. use the brush if you have spots you have a stain you want out.

After you get it mostly done, go ahead drain the water and squeeze what you can out of it– and repeat.
I did the wash cycle 2-3 times just to be sure, because the ears and tail were giving me doubts. Remember, your plush likely gets darker when wet.

Rinsing

The next step was to rinse. Essentially, from a drained tub, you want to fill it and get all the soap out that you can. Having a little bit will be fine as it makes your plush smell nice! 😊

Drying

Once I was happy with the rinsing, I took the plush and got enough water out that it wasn’t dripping badly and placed it in the washing machine. My machine has a “Dry and Spin” option, so I used that. It drained a good amount of water out of it. If you don’t have that option, you may want to still leave it there for a few days as a good place to drain. I left mine overnight, as it was a already late.

The next morning, I moved the plush into my room with the fan on it to help it dry. Once the surface was dry, I used the drying machine on tumble with fabric softeners to make the plush fluffy again, which it did.

Ending

That night I went back to cuddling it to sleep. the bottom was a tad damp but unnoticeable when the plush was warm under body temperatures.

Enjoy!
